How do you live with tinnitus?

Suncoast AudiologyHearing Health

Tinnitus is experienced as the perception of noise, such as ringing, buzzing, or hissing, in the absence of external sound, affecting over 25 million American adults. While the exact cause can vary, including exposure to certain medications, Meniere’s disease, or sensorineural hearing loss, it often intensifies with stress, certain dietary choices, and at night due to reduced environmental noise. Though largely subjective and noticeable only to the individual, rare cases may produce sounds audible to others. Management strategies include stress reduction, dietary adjustments, and the use of hearing aids equipped with sound generators to mask the internal noise. Despite the challenges it presents, with proper management and a hearing evaluation, those affected can find ways to live with and lessen the impact of tinnitus.
